El Mirador, Semuc Champey & San Pedro La Laguna, Guatemala

I lost my photos from the Mirador ruins and Semuc Champey so won't be including them in this post. If I get them replaced from some friends then I'll post them, but here are some pictures from San Pedro, Guatemala - a small town (rather touristy) on Lake Atitlan. For reasons not fully understood, the water level in Lake Atitlan has risen around 7 yards in the last 2 years, putting much property underwater as can be seen in the photos.

San Ignacio, Belize

I've now arrived in Guatemala after spending a few nights in San Ignacio. I enjoyed my time there but didn't take part in much of the tourist attractions as prices were fairly steep. The first night I had a private one bed room for $12.50 US at the Hi-Et Inn and the next two I would pay $10.00 US for a shared dorm at Bella's Hostel. Among other things, I visited an Iguana sanctuary at the San Ignacio resort which cost approximately $5 US, which is a fairly good deal considering the experience. My trek from San Ignacio to Flores, Guatemala cost me $17.50 US and consisted of two taxis, the first was $2.50 from San Ignacio to the border and the second $15 from the border to Flores.

San Pedro, Belize

We arrived in San Pedro a day after planned since my brother and I happened upon free room accommodations in Caye Caulker for Wednesday night. Here in San Pedro we are staying in Pedro's Backpacker's Inn and it has proven to be very good value. $12.50/night/person is significantly more than the $5 and $0 price tags we had in Cancun and Caye Caulker, but San Pedro in general is more expensive. For a two bed room with wifi and outlets, we're satisfied.

Tomorrow Josh heads home and I continue alone. I will probably water taxi to Belize City early then catch a chicken bus to San Ignacio. Once there I will either stay in a Hostel or take advantage of their camping.
